By the end of this decade every child will have the opportunity to study at least one new language by the age of seven. This is a wonderful objective with the potential to enrich children's education, opening up avenues of communication and encouraging broader cultural understanding, but it also brings its own set of challenges for primary schools.

RM's vast stand at BETT 2006 not only attracted visitors keen to see demonstrations and advice about its new version of Easiteach but was also those who were hoping for a glimpse at "Sonica" the new Modern Foreign Language (MFL) learning support "game". Even teachers with no experience of new technologies and those without language teaching skills couldn't resist the chance to try out this device. As teachers and children stamp on the dance mat to answer the questions it is easy to overlook the wealth of learning that they are soaking up.
